How to Find Help with Transportation for Cancer Patients

Getting to and from cancer treatment sessions can be a major challenge, especially if you are a single person and you live far from family members.

The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program helps meet this challenge. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of the cars to get cancer patients to their life-saving treatments.

Cancer patients or their caregivers can call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 to be matched with a volunteer or for helping in searching online for a volunteer in your area.

Eligibility for American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Transportation

  1. Patients must be traveling to an appointment required for their treatment or to an appointment for complementary therapy during cancer treatment.
  2. Patients must be able to walk unassisted to and from the vehicle, or have an accompanying caregiver to assist.
  3. Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legally responsible adult such as a parent or caregiver.
  4. A four business day advance notice is required, not including the date transportation is needed.
