Men’s Journal Best Gran Fondo Raises Almost $12,000 for Prostate Cancer
by Robert Warren Hess
Named one of the best gran fondo rides in the US by Men’s Journal and Bicycling Magazine, almost 500 riders rolled out of Harrisonburg, Virginia on Sunday morning, September 25th. When they returned, they had ridden 108 miles and climbed over 10,000′ through some of the most beautiful countryside in the Shenandoah Valley.
Together, they raised just over $12,000 to support the continued operation of the Cancer Journeys Foundation’s prostate cancer early detection system – ProstateTracker.
Sarah Hynes was the top fundraiser this year, raising almost $4,000 in memory of her grandfather who passed away in May 2016 from prostate cancer. This year’s top fundraisers are pictured below with Cancer Journeys Foundation President Robert Hess (second from right) and Joe Dombrowski (far right), professional road cyclist with the Cannondale-Drapac team.
If you are a gran fondo enthusiast, Jeremiah Bishop’s Alpine Loop Gran Fondo needs to be on your list. He does training camps over the summer to get you ready for the September ride.
